A little bit of this and a whole lot of that

So, what is involved in flooring installation? The goal of this article is to orient you as to some of the things you ought to know, and then, once you have decided on the specific type of floor you want to have installed, we’d be happy to go into more depth. At Completely Floored we have a team of professional installers for every type of flooring.

What can you do?

The most important of these things is to remove any breakables from the work area. This would include china or a fancy vase you have in the corner, or it could include pictures that you have on the wall or knick-knacks that might get broken. Curtains that touch the floor should also be taken off.

Make sure the installers have a clear path from the entrance of your home to the work area. Carpet, for instance, is twelve feet long and usually requires two people to carry. Hardwood comes in heavy boxes. The more direct and accessible to the work area, the more efficiently our installers will be able to work. Also, while our installers love pets just as much as you do, they can get underfoot, so please have them out of the work area as well.

Also, when scheduling the flooring installation, make sure we are aware of any particularly heavy pieces of furniture. If you have a large fish tank or a water-bed in the work area, you will want to have them drained before the arrival of our installers. Please make sure you let us know about items that we will need to move for you so that we can be prepared.

Floor preparation

Before our installers ever begin installing your floor, they will need to prepare your old floor and this looks very different depending on the flooring you have and are having installed. If you have carpet, we will take up the old carpet and padding and then thoroughly sweep the work area before new padding is brought in. In some cases, our installers may need to replace sections of the tack strip, depending on the condition of your existing strip.

If you are installing luxury vinyl flooring, then it can be placed on top of any hard surface that you already have in the home. The same is true with laminate flooring. Rarely do people have us chisel up old ceramic tile, but this can be done if the conditions make it necessary. The same can be said for hardwood.

Flooring installation itself

You might want to take a peek sometime at the number of tools that our installers keep on their work vehicles. There are typically several boxes of standard tools but then there are numerous special tools that might only be used in specific situations. Whatever the flooring, it takes experience and skill to provide you with a professional installation. Whether glued, stretched, laid as a floating floor, or cemented and grouted, we don’t consider a job complete until you are satisfied.
