Whether it’s a solid hardwood flooring installation or an uncomplicated floating floor, the better prepared you are, the smoother it'll all go. We compiled answers to some of the questions we hear most often in our showroom, but don’t hesitate to come into our showroom when you’re thinking of a new flooring installation in Everett, WA.
What questions should I ask?
Ask who is responsible for what; for example, a flooring installation service may include moving the furniture out in their estimate if you handle the valuables and breakables. Some don’t, however. Find out who is responsible for removing the old floor, disposing of it, and doing any subfloor repairs. You don’t want any surprise charges. Also, ask about dust and noise levels, the latter especially if you’re concerned about inconveniencing your neighbors.
Do I need to empty the room?
The installers need plenty of space to work, and you also want to be sure the new floor lies flat. If you can, set up a separate area as a workstation for them and be sure to ask them when you can move furniture back in.
Should I paint the walls first or install the floors first?
This is one of the most-asked questions! Everyone has a different preference, so it’s best to ask installers what they prefer. If you paint first, you may have to do touch-ups, as installers will come in with heavy tools and flooring rolls that may nick and scratch. On the other hand, if you install the flooring first, you’ll have to use plenty of painter's tape, tarps, and other coverings to protect the rug.
Why is subfloor preparation essential?
Subfloors can affect the appearance, performance, and longevity of the surface floor. Very often, subfloor problems will travel up to the surface floor. Depending on the flooring, the subfloor may need to be sanded to level it out, or moisture values will need to be taken.
We encourage questions because the more we all know, the smoother and faster the process.
