Hardwood
Solid hardwood flooring complements any room decor. It comes in planks that are unfinished or prefinished. An unfinished wood floor needs to be sanded and stained at your home, a process that takes about two weeks to complete. Prefinished planks are finished at the factory. They can be installed in one day, and you can walk on the floor on the same day. The factory uses very powerful chemical sealers that are not available to on-site installers.
Solid hardwood is a permanent floor covering that can be sanded down and refinished more than once. Engineered hardwood is a less costly alternative to solid hardwood flooring. It is made from plywood that has a layer of prefinished hardwood on top of it so it is easily installed in a day. While solid hardwood floors are glued or nailed to the subfloor, engineered hardwood is connected to float above the subfloor.
Tile, laminate, and vinyl
Completely Floored can lay several other types of floor coverings throughout your home. One of these is ceramic tile, which is durable and water-resistant. The tile must be installed over a subfloor that's no less than 1-1/8 inches thick. Tiles are laid with mortar. Laminate, made from wood, and vinyl, made from plastic, are usually not fastened directly to the floor. These floor coverings both float over the subfloor in a tongue and groove manner. Floating floors are great if you want a less permanent floor that can be changed when you update a room in future years. Also, laminate and vinyl planks and tiles can easily be replaced if damaged.
