There’s a lot of truth in that old cliché that says, “You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.” That goes for your home too, since the floor is an expression of personal style, not to mention the installation is probably the biggest investment you’ll make in your home, so make it, and keep it, looking great! You want it to last a long, long time.
Is Your Flooring Installation Telling You Something?
There are many reasons why people might want new flooring. Some are functional, including if:
●The carpet still looks worn and dirty no matter how often it’s cleaned. If that’s the case, it might be time for a new rug.
●It seems like you’re replacing tile pieces more and more often. The great thing about tile is that it's so tough it’s almost impossible to break, but if it does, you only replace the piece, not the entire floor. If you’re doing it a lot, your floor is talking to you!
●Laminate starts to look worn. While any flooring takes a lot of punishment from both heavy foot traffic and furniture scratches; if yours does look worn, it may be time for a new installation.
Aesthetics
Sometimes you just want a refresher. A new floor changes the entire appearance and atmosphere of a room, and it can do just the trick if you don’t want to do a full-top-to-bottom remodel. (Just be sure it coordinates with your furnishing and accessories.)
When I first moved, although I liked the kitchen floor, I wanted to add more warmth and texture, so I opted for luxury vinyl plank. (I love the look of wood but, feeling a little depleted from the move, I went for the best alternative to the real thing.) Luxury vinyl plank is available in an assortment of colors and species, and you can even get features such a texturing to give it more depth. It’s also waterproof, a benefit, since my pipes can be leaky. Water is hardwood’s mortal enemy.
Another reason might be added value. Wood-look laminate is the new go-to for an alternative to a wood floor. It’s easy to lay; just ask any floor installer.
