How to Be Floored with Your Flooring Installation

Okay, that pun was intended, but with our firm, Completely Floored of Everett, WA, there’s just no other way to say it, because you’ll be delighted with your floor installation when we finish.

While there are many kinds of flooring installations, we’re going to focus on laminate here because the material is durable, easy to maintain, affordable and, most important, beautiful. So much has changed in recent years, and a laminate flooring installation, if done well, can look remarkably similar to hardwood, granite and marble. No longer is laminate a homogeneous, manufactured-looking product but, rather, today it’s truly a design statement.

The key phrase, however, is “if done well.”  Good installation and routine maintenance is critical to any flooring, and this one is no exception. Yes, it is easy to install, and that “click and lock” system can make it look awfully tempting to see it as a DIY project. but it’s also a complex project, one that’s best handled by a pro. There are many factors to take into consideration, such as preparing the cleaning and the subfloor; knowing when and when not an underlayment is necessary, and if so, how to cut it properly; installing around door frames and baseboards; and measuring properly to take closets into consideration.  Our laminate flooring installers are certified, licensed, bonded and insured, and they will do all this, to make sure the floor is installed properly.

Now that it’s done, be sure to take care of it. Laminate is made from pressed wood, and that’s pretty tough, so it does stand up to normal wear and tear. It’s also scratch-and-moisture-resistant. That means it can be installed in semi-moist rooms like the powder bath or kitchen. However, it won’t tolerate water puddles, so if these areas are prone to leaks, go with something that’s 100% impervious like tile or vinyl. Laminate also comes with UV protection so, unlike hardwood, it doesn’t fade in the sunlight.

Every flooring has its own challenges, and this one is that it doesn’t repair easily, so don’t go out of your way to test the wear and tear!
