Can you install luxury vinyl over hardwood?

Yes, vinyl is flexible enough to be placed over most anything, including hardwood, but you will need to be mindful of special requirements. Luxury vinyl, especially plank, needs a smooth surface, so the installer may need to sand it to level any uneven spots. Some will even cover the wood floor first with a plywood board. If you are thinking of doing this, please seek the advice of our installation services first.

Why do some not remove the wood floor?

It's usually a case of saving time and money. Hardwood is difficult to remove; the planks are of different lengths, making it almost impossible to do it quickly. It's also more efficient to place over an existing floor. However, there are always challenges like moisture issues, so when you come into our flooring store, we'll ask many questions, advise how we'll proceed, and discuss whether or not this is even advisable.

We know hardwood floors are beautiful, and they do add real estate value, so one day, you may wish to go back to them. That is why we often suggest a loose lay technique, where the new flooring hovers over the subfloor with no nails or glue so that they can be easily removed. The installation is just as necessary as the product itself, so come in to see us when seeking flooring installations in Everett, WA.

What is luxury vinyl?

Sometimes just referred to as LVF, this vinyl is an amazingly realistic mimic of wood, stone, or tile, available in an almost unlimited number of colors and patterns. Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured appearances such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed. It can be cut into long planks to simulate hardwood boards or square tile-sized pieces for stone or tile echoes (although some people use these pieces also to mimic wood.)
