We get a lot of questions about laminate flooring here at Completely Floored, so we thought it might be a good idea to provide our customers a quick FAQ to lay to rest the most common questions people ask us about laminate flooring. What Do I Need to Know About Cleaning My Laminate Flooring?
• It's important to keep up on sweeping your laminate flooring to avoid the build-up of dirt and grit that can cause abrasion to the wear layer of your floor, and dull its luster.
• When mopping, try to use a damp mop, not a wet one, to avoid allowing moisture to remain in contact with the floor for too long. In fact, the best way to mop your floor is with a microfiber mop, such as a Swiffer or something similar.
• Don't allow moisture to sit on your floor for too long. Be sure to blot it up as quickly as possible with a dry, non-abrasive cloth.
• Avoid using soap-based cleaners on your floor. Also stay away from any abrasive cleaners that claim to polish or shine. They will abrade your protective wear layer and, ultimately, damage your floors.
• It's important that you never polish or wax your laminate flooring.
• Steam cleaning and harsh chemical detergents can completely ruin your laminate floor. These are huge no-nos. If you feel the need to use a cleaning agent, make sure it is approved for use on laminate flooring.
Will I Have to Factor in Cutting Waste During My Install?
In a word, yes. It is completely reasonable to expect a loss of 7-10% of the total material due to improper cuts, installation damage, and all-around human error. Try to plan accordingly when ordering your materials.
Is it Possible to Repair Nicks and Scratches?
Most flooring stores will stock a special paste that can be used to repair minor nicks and scratches. If the damage is severe enough, you may need to consider replacing the damaged tile. Luckily, this is a fairly easy process and only requires removal and replacement of the damaged plank, not the whole floor.
